Guide

How much does Etsy take per sale?

Every 2026 fee with its rate and what it applies to, two fully itemised worked examples, and the levers that actually reduce the total.

Every fee Etsy charges in 2026

FeeRateCharged on
Listing$0.20Each listing, renewed every 4 months or per sale
Transaction6.5%Item price + shipping + gift wrap + personalisation
Payment processing (US)3% + $0.25The full order total
Offsite Ads15% or 12%Only orders attributed to an Etsy-run ad
Regulatory operating0–1.15%Item + shipping, in certain countries

Stacked together on a normal US sale with no offsite ad, that comes to roughly 9.5% of the order plus $0.45 in fixed costs. The fixed part is what makes cheap listings inefficient and the proportional part is what caps your margin no matter how high you price.

Shipping is not exempt

The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge, not just the item. Offering free shipping means absorbing that 6.5% on postage you never billed separately — build it into the item price.

A digital download, itemised

A $20 digital print with no shipping and no offsite ad — the cleanest case, and the one most print sellers should be aiming at.

11.8% of the order goes to Etsy. No item cost, no postage, no packing.

Order total$20.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)−$1.30
Processing (3% + $0.25)−$0.85
Total Etsy fees−$2.35

Selling into the UK adds a 0.32% regulatory operating fee, taking fees to $2.41 and profit to $17.59. Canada's 1.15% is the largest of the verified rates. These are small but they are real, and they scale with volume.

A physical print, itemised

The same shop selling a $25 physical print with $6 shipping charged, costing $4 to produce and $5 to post:

LineAmount
Order total (item + shipping)$31.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of $31)−$2.02
Processing (3% + $0.25)−$1.18
Product cost−$4.00
Postage−$5.00
You keep$18.61

A $31 order nets $18.61; a $20 digital order nets $17.65. Almost identical take-home from a 55% larger order — and the physical one also costs you packing time, postage runs, and the risk of damage in transit. That comparison is the whole case for digital downloads in this category.

Offsite Ads, and whether you can escape them

  • Shops under $10,000 in the last 12 months pay 15% on attributed orders and can opt out entirely in shop settings.
  • Shops at or above $10,000 pay 12% and cannot opt out. The lower rate is the compensation for it being mandatory.
  • The fee is capped at $100 per order, which only matters on high-ticket items.
  • It applies only to orders Etsy attributes to one of its own external ads — not to organic Etsy search traffic.

On a $20 digital sale the 15% version costs you $3 extra, taking profit from $17.65 to $14.65 and the effective fee rate from 11.8% to 26.8%. If a meaningful share of your orders arrive this way, blend it into your average rather than pricing off the clean number.

Reducing what Etsy takes

  1. 1Raise the average order value. Bundles spread the $0.45 fixed fee across more revenue, which is the only fee you can genuinely dilute.
  2. 2Sell digital where you can. No product cost, no postage, and nothing to refund for damage.
  3. 3Do not offer free shipping on physical items without pricing it in — you pay 6.5% on it either way.
  4. 4Opt out of Offsite Ads while you are under $10k, if the attributed volume is not paying for itself.
  5. 5Keep listings active rather than relisting constantly; each renewal is another $0.20.

Once you know the fees, the useful next step is to price backwards from your target profit.

FAQ

Have any questions?

Everything you need to know about this free tool.

How much does Etsy take per sale in 2026?

On a typical US sale, Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25. That's roughly 9.5% + $0.45 per order — more if the sale came from an Offsite Ad (12–15%).

Does the transaction fee apply to shipping?

Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the item price, the shipping you charge, and any gift wrap or personalization fees — not just the item price.

What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?

When a sale comes from an Etsy-run offsite ad, Etsy charges 15% (shops under $10k/yr) or 12% (shops $10k+/yr), capped at $100 per order. Shops over $10k/yr can't opt out. It only applies to sales attributed to those ads, so toggle it on only for those.

Are these fees accurate for my country?

The payment processing rate shown (3% + $0.25) is for US Etsy Payments; other countries differ. Pick your location to apply the correct regulatory operating fee. Always confirm against your own Etsy payment account for exact figures.
